SKSR does not endorse any of these opportunities. They are placed here as possible volunteer opportunities.
Cacoon House--Posted July 8, 2021
Cocoon House is an agency that has operated since 1991 helping youth and students who are at risk or experiencing homelessness. They are trying to get the word out to the Snohomish County community about a new program that will create a network of host homes all over the county to provide temporary, short-term housing (21 days or less) to a teen between 12-17 who is facing homelessness. Host homes will help us protect our youth from more trauma by providing a safe, stable and welcoming place to be while we work with them to reunite them with their families, if possible, or support them in finding another option. They will also provide wrap-around services to support their long-term success and wellbeing.
If you are interested you can look at their website http://www.cocoonhouse.org or contact [email protected].
AARP Tax Aide Program
One of the important partnerships that WSSRA maintains is with AARP-WA. One service is the tax aide program for seniors. AARP is looking for people to become tax aides. Snohomish County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Program
The program recruits and trains volunteers within the community to be court appointed advocates for children in the foster care system. Advocacy for children in the system can have a huge positive impact on the wellbeing of these vulnerable children. Our advocates are able to advocate in court for things such as foster care placement, medical and mental health needs, community and culture, as well as education. We currently work with a few retired teachers and they are amazing advocates for these children. The volunteer application and more information about the CASA program can be found at the following website: snohomishcountywa.gov/CASA.
