The grant, with pictures below, was intended to enrich Lake Forest Park Library “Early Reader Chapter Section” with new early reader chapter series books that reflect our student population and could be used for students to learn about character traits. This section is intended for newly independent readers who are ready to make the leap from easy picture books to fiction chapter books, but not are not yet ready for longer fiction titles. By reading these series books with familiar characters, simple plot lines and easy-to-read text and related illustrations, students develop comfort in reading and this in turn advances their skills, confidence, and motivation to read.
Pictures below are from 5th-grade STEM Motion and Design workshop by Rick Hartman. LFP students had a fabulous afternoon of learning about energy, motion and design with Rick Hartman “The Toymaker” this grant provided the opportunity for all 5th graders to participate in this hands-on learning and really helped set the stage for science concepts in our Motion and Design Unit.
